Please Note:You have arrived at the site of 'The Real Maypole Band' Not the band from LA, or Poland ,or Holland, or Sweden who stole our name. We are existing since 1969. None of these guys were even born yet. Our first album was on Colossus MGM released in 1970 and re-released on CD by Gear Fab records and on Clear Vinyl on Anopheles Records last year(2006) We play 'real music', so if you looking for that Hardcore,Punk Crap, you landed on the wrong page.

Also I would ask you to read about Radioactive Records UK bootlegging and pirating activities of The Maypole's 'The Real' album which they have been engaging in for several years now, on our Record Reviews and News Page.Where you will find a link that will explain what these pirates have been doing, not only  to us, but to many artists including JImi Hendrix over the years. I would appreciate your reading this, and telling your friends not to buy, sell or trade in these bootleg items that ultimately injure your favorite artists who are being cheated and ripped off for their just royalties. Also they are of inferior quality and presentation which also harms our reputation and our fans. Making music is fun and rewarding of course, but also hard work and we musicians have to put up with many kinds of abuse. I have seen my fair share, aside from people ripping off our name, but from agents, managers, record labels, venue owners etc. It is up to you, the public to decide if these people can continue to do us harm, merely for profit, not caring who it injuresand most important not caring about the music. My deepest thanks......Demian Glitter Graphics

News and interesting bits

I would first like to thank all the people who have been so supportive of the music over the years. The dozens of reviews, comments and critiques that I have found on the web about the new re-releases of our CD and Vinyl versions of the first Maypole album have been incredible. I thank all of you for the generous spirit that you have put forth on our behalf. We appreciate it deeply and we are happy that after all these years that people ''Get IT''.

Also a big thanks to KUSF 90.3 FM in San Francisco Bay Area who on May4th played the whole first side of the Maypole Album 'The Real',

Tim Ellison who has reviewed the album for the City Paper in my old hometown of Baltimore.

Huge thanks to Karl Ikola of Anopheles Records, San Francisco without his hard work and perfect sense of us, this new release would have not been possible.

I have tried to put together as much information about the band and our history while at the same time letting the people know that the band lives on albiet with different people but with the same spirit as always. We have four more albums coming in the pipeline.

The next release 'Mean Green' will be in the fall of 2007 on Gear Fab Records. Also I would like to thank all the Great Artists, that have come out in support of us on My Space. The outpouring of love and respect has been tremendous. Please visit and see for yourself.

As we celebrate the 35th aniversary of the release of The Maypole album, sad news reached me that Kenny Ross, one of the original members of Maypole passed away from Liver Cancer in May(2005) in his native Baltimore. I  also mourn my great friend and partner Paul Welsh the drummer who made this music with me and co-founder of Maypole in 1969, they both did not live to see the popularity of the groups music, which we worked and fought so hard for. I hope there are still people out there who can understand this bittersweet irony. I dedicate this new music to the two departed friends I loved so well. I had a chance to spend some time with John Nickel when I was in America last year taking care of my mother before she died. He is doing well and he is the same great person as always.

On ebay last month the Maypole album sold for two hundred and twenty four American dollars. By the way there is a Band from San Francisco calling themselves May Pole with a space, a Dutch band, a Swedish band and a Polish band calling themselves Maypole, but of course they aren't the original. All young guys in their 20's and 30's, I think they weren't even sperm yet when we released our album. So don't be confused...There is only one original Maypole.....Demian Bell

Biography of Demian Bell

Demian Bell, born Dennis Tobell (also known as Denny Romans, Brian Romans) in Chicago. He started Classical piano at age 7,  then went to guitar when he was 13. His first gig was at the Gold Horse Saloon in Folsom California, when he was 15 with a band called "The Rogues".A mixture of Blues,Folk and Country.

The Moss
Moving back to the east coast, he then joined a band with much older players from the Baltimore blues scene, called "The Moss".They were the first house band at The Blusette a legendary club that opened from1965 till 1972. He was then doing concerts and TV shows in the Baltimore.Washington area.He later formed The Pychedelic Propellor in 1965, which then recorded an album in New York and played the more important venues in the area, The Baltimore Civic Center, and the leading clubs in the area.

In 1969, he formed "Maypole".with Paul Welsh.  The songs were a rather heavy rock, with a lot of harmonies with complex arrangements but with bluesy guitar solos. They got a record deal with MGM, and made an album in New York at A&R studios with Demian writing 90% of the material. This album was critically acclaimed, and the group toured extensively with many of the great acts of the day such as Bob Seeger, Elephants Memory, The Nazz, Nils Lofgrin, Bill Haley& The Comets, The Kingsmen, Redbone, and many more. The group appeared on many National and local T.V. programs for two and a half years, then the group split up.

This is the period when Demian became a lead singer, after backing other people,on guitar for many years.Over the years Demian has recorded with many artists, as a guitarist, vocalist, a recording engineer and producer.  The emphasis has always been on live performance and recording Throughout the 70's he did many sessions with bands in California, Maryland, and New York, with partner Neil Case, also a recording engineer, from Jamaica, who had worked on The Stones Album "Goats Head Soup", Joe Cocker(You Are So Beautiful), and Peter Tosh records to name a few.In 1981 he signed with Nouveaux Records,Miami and recorded the single "Gotta Let Go" and "The Move" he co-produced with Gary Vandy, and filmed his first video, toured Europe and was named West Germany's Musician of the month by the Aachener Volks Zeitung.  The famous producer and engineer Tom Dowd (Ray Charles,Eric Clapton and scores of other artists)took a personal interest in Demian in 1981 and tried to create a project with Demian and Eric Clapton which did not pan out but said of Demian; (that)`Demian is one of the most unusual guitarists I have ever heard`.
The late 80's found Demian in Spain playing with the most famous of musicians there, such as Mike Kennedy of "Los Bravos", Benet Nogue of "Attila", and Jaume Rivera of "Miguel Rios"and Evolution, and Oh Well.
